“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”
It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.
His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.
For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.
From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we’ve never been before.

*MY THOUGHTS*

I own this book as an e-book, so I have no idea why I had to check it out from the library for me to read it. I'd let the book sit on my Nook since it's release, but when everyone started talking about how great the most recent book in the story was, I started getting upset that I hadn't read it. So, I finally just checked it out and read it.
"'There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St, Mark's Eve, Blue. Either you're his true love, [...] or you killed him."
pg. 16

It wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be though. It was good, and had some very interesting twists, but there wasn't much happening in the middle. I loved the beginning of the story and the end, but the middle was a little too boring for my taste. Almost to the point where I wanted to put it down again. The only thing that made me keep going is Stiefvater's writing.
"'He asked for a specific. I gave him a specific. Sorry it wasn't puppies."
pg. 147
Stiefvater definitely has a way with words. The writing was colorful and full of details without adding too much extra fluff. The story itself was a little hard to follow because the ley lines and Gloendower and others were kind of weird, but as the story went on, it gets a little easier. Plus the things they find are pretty cool as well. Stiefvater shows her amazing imagination in this novel. I can't wait to read everything else by her.
"'Life isn't negotiable."
pg. 224
I really liked the main character Blue because her family reminded me of mine. Everyone is crazy and funny and our family is huge. All of them had their own special gift, and it was interesting to see what they did with it. It was also interestig to see who the  "villain" was. I knew it would be somone clse to Blue, and in a way he was, but at the same time, he wasn't. It's a little hard to explain without Spoilers. The big twist that threw me for a loop was the body situation. It was kind of crazy. I remember asking "WTF" out loud because I just didn't believe it.
"...the boys seemed to act as a unit, a single, multi headed entity. To see any of them without the presence of the others felt a little... dangerous. "
pg. 257

This story is one that I'm sorry I missed out on. I can't wait to continue the series and see what the mini cliff hanger means. So glad I don't have to wait a year for the next book. I'll be getting this one from the library as soon as I return this one.

Chloe would rather be anywhere than locked in work jail (aka the break room) with five of her coworkers . . . even if one of them is Tyson. But if they can band together to clear their names, what looks like a total disaster might just make Chloe’s list of Top Ten Best Moments.

*MY THOUGHTS*

I can't lie, I wasn't a huge fan of Ask Again Later, but this one was definitely more my speed! It featured lists and so many nerdish tendencies. It just felt more me.
"'By my calculation, about thirty percent of adulthood is pretending to like people you actually couldn't care less about.."
pg. 59
The first thing I loved about this book was the diversity. There are so many different kinds of people in this book and I loved them all. In addition, the characters were all well rounded. They ended up all getting a little back story which made this light and fluffy read all the more enjoyable. They didn't seem so vague and it made their jokes more identifiable and more funny.
"'Haven't you heard? Hell is other people."
pg. 191
Then there was the laugh factor. This book was hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud everywhere I was reading it; at work, at the doctor, in court lol It's one of those books that can immerse you into the character's world and have you laughing out loud when you're really in public and people are looking at you like you've lost it. Between Sammi and Gabe, and Chloe's craziness, the laughs just keep coming.
"'Why should I have to fit in with everyone else's idea of what makes someone beautiful? Why does everyone care so much?"
pg. 193
The mystery in it wasn't my favorite tho. I always base those on whether I figure out who the culprit is or not. With this one, it was too easy. I had it figured it out from the beginning. But still, with Czukas' writing style, I was able to look past it and just enjoy the book.
"People make assumptions about you no matter what you look like."
pg. 195
I was a little iffy on whether or not I wanted to read this one or not, but I looked past that an gave it a shot. It was definitely worth it. This adorable holiday read will have you laughing and get you in the mood for the holidays a little early!

Firebird, #1

For fans of: Time Travel, Romance, Sparkly Covers, YA

Every Day meets Cloud Atlas in this heart-racing, space- and time-bending, epic new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray.

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after       Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores a reality where we witness the countless other lives we might lead in an amazingly intricate multiverse, and ask whether, amid infinite possibilities, one love can endure.

*MY THOUGHTS*

With this being my first book by Gray, I was a little skeptical.... Especially after seeing some not so stellar reviews of her other works... But still I gave this one a shot anyways. I'd never forgive myself if I didn't find out what was beneath that beautiful cover.
"And I hate the way they looked at me, admiring but appraising, the same kind of hard, greedy assessment they' give an expensive sports car. Not one of them sees me.."
(ARC)
As it turns out, this book was actually very good. The writing itself was very good and flowed perfectly. And that's saying something because time travel novels are hard, and this one is about different DIMENSIONS. I'm pretty sure this was a little more difficult. But everything stayed tigether and there weren't any holes left out of her writing.
"Sometimes it pays to be a secretive bastard."
(ARC)
But, it did get a little info dumpy at times. My logic though, is that it had to be. This book would've been way too long had she tried to spread out all the rules that the Firebird could do instead of just telling them all at once. Even with the info dumps though, it did not weigh down the story.
"So it looks as though the same groups of people find each other over and over. Not invariably, but far more than mere chance would suggest.."
(ARC)
Another thing she did really well was the dimension travel. I loved how they were all unique but still came down to the same one point, love. I was impressed that she kept them together, because as a reader sometimes it's hard t keep them straight in your head, so I can only imagine being in the head of an author. Gray really did think of everything in this novel and it came out to be a brilliant, beautifully written story that will take readers on different mini adventures. It really made me think, what are other me's doing in other dimensions.
"I've always thought real love could only come later. After you both know each other, trust each other. After days, or weeks, or months spent together- learning to understand everything that isn't spoken out loud."
(ARC)
Another small thing that bothered me was the pacing of the story. It started off intriguing , but then got really slow towards the middles. Slow to a point where I wanted to skip ahead. But I'm glad I didn't because I would've missed something vital to the story. The event came up multiple other times in the story and I would have been VERY confused lol But then, the end came and every time I turned a page something new was happening. It really made me stop and pause for a second. it just caught me of guard the way it was slammed into the story like that. Especially since it had been stagnant for so long.
"Nothing could have torn you two apart. [...] 'Nothing but death."
(ARC)
As for the romance, I hated the love triangle part of this, but clearly she wrote it that way for a reason. In the end she picked a clear winner, but still it bothered me. I just didn't feel it was necessary. Maybe it was just because I didn't want to like him, but I just didn't feel like it needed to be done.
"Change comes from within, right?"
(ARC)
This novel was unique and so full of adventure. It showed that regardless of where you are or where you are, the most constant of your emotions is love. Clearly, it knows no boundaries, even dimensions.
Overall, I give this

*MY THOUGHTS*

Let me start by saying this is my first Kagawa book. I know, I know, she is an author that is huge in the YA community, but I was always put off by fairies and vampires which are the other things she's written about. But now after reading this, I can say, I have completely been turned into a fan girl and I want to read ALL THE THINGS BY HER.

I was completely won over by Kagawa's writing style. It was easy to follow and kept me interested the entire time. I was hanging on to every page and didn't want to put it down. By the end, I wanted to call in to work just to finish it. It was that good you guys. The other thing about the writing style that I loved were the steamy scenes. Let me tell you, she can definitely write those. I swooned so hard so many times. I can't wait for the world to meet Garret! He's such a sweetheart with so many secrets.

Also, the plot flowed really well. With it being filled with twists and turns like that, I'm amazed to see how she could make it flow so easily. And when I say twists and turns, I mean it. I didn't know who to trust the entire book. I had all these feelings swirling in my head, but I couldn't figure out how to put two and two together. I wanted to trust everyone and no one at the same time. In the end, all those secrets are what got to me. There's a bit of a cliff hanger in the actual story and an even bigger one in the Epilogue. I can't wait to see where this story goes next.

This brings me to the characters. For awhile I really didn't like Ember. She was stubborn and she didn't have any regard for authority or anyone else for that matter. It kind of grated on my nerves because that never ends well. But as the book went on and secrets were unveiled, I was starting to agree with her. In the end she turned out to be a strong character that I really felt I got to know. Don't get me wrong, she's still impulsive, but I can understand her reasoning better now. As for Garret, he's about the exact same way. He is just as impulsive but I understood why he made the decision he made.

Buttttt, then there's still some things I didn't like... Like the love triangle. Did it really have to be there? I felt like it was more than that because Garret, Garret, secret, Riley, Riley's secret, and Ember all seem to have their own thing going on. It was just too much and I don't think it HAD to be there. They had an animal attraction yes, but it wasn't the real thing. Well I don't think so.

I don't normally care for fantasy, but I really liked this one. Maybe because there weren't any high fantasy elements besides the dragons, but for whatever reason I really liked this one. If I can find more fantasies like this one to help me ease more into the genre I will read them. Thank you for opening my world to another genre Kagawa! From the plot to the characters, this was one fantasy book I was glad I did not miss!

Overall, I give this

  *MY THOUGHTS*

With me being one of the few people that actually really liked the Hush, Hush saga, I was definitely excited to see this title come up on the Around the World tour site. It was one of my mot anticipated. Why? Because I wanted to see how Fitzpatrick would work without that paranormal aspect. Let me just say, I really had nothing to worry about.

"Jesus said forgive but there was always room for an exception."

pg. 25

There were some times that I was questioning Fitzpatrick's motives and for a point in time I even debated putting the book down, but I didn't. I stuck with it and was able to see the enormous plot twist that I wasn't expecting at all. I was thinking the entire time that one thing was happening that I didn't think twice about anyone or anything else. And I see now that I shouldn't have done that. I guess the moral of this story was "Never let your guard down."

"I watched [him]march back and forth, chewing at a hang nail on the thumb of his left hand. His shoulders were hunched, his legs stiff, the muscles of his jaw clenched in concentration. He looked tightly wound. Like he might snap at any moment."

pg. 91

Although the plot was good and unsuspecting, the characters weren't the best. Britt was so compliant with EVERYONE and she trusted way too easily. That was her problem. Always letting people in too quickly and not judging their real character first. And Jesus if that girl didn't do every last thing that a girl in a scary movie/book shouldn't do smh She was a real stereotype and I just couldn't bring myself to fully like her. Especially since she was blaming her feelings on Stockholm syndrome. I got a little angry at that because she chose whatever they did and him and it seemed like she just wanted to erase it so that was what she came up with. I also didn't like her best friend. She gave new meaning to the words "With friends like them, who needs enemies?" She was just spiteful and rude and nothing like a best friend should be.

"She had died out here. In the same woods where I was fighting for my life."

pg. 203

As for the romance, this is what caused me to shut the book for awhile. I had to know how she got away or whatever happened to her so I decided to keep reading. But that was the only reason. And I'm glad I did. Because what I was mad at her for doing, it turns out that wasn't even the case. There's a huge twist that I didn't see coming. And that made everything ok. But I still had that little feeling in the back of my throat that was thinking it was a little weird.

"Blood is blood and nothing is its equal."

pg. 381

Now the writing style was the only thing I could really complain about. It was so repetitive. It got so bad I at one point wished I had wished I read "Stockholm syndrome, freezing, and cold.I mean let's be real. A thesaurus should be sitting on your desk. You're an author for Pete's sake.

"After the darkness comes light."

pg. 391

Overall, this was a really thrilling read. There were times that I loved it and times that I disliked it. It was definitely exciting and worth the read. Definitely more than her first novel. Now it's official, I can't wait to see what else is up this author's sleeve.

Overall, I give this

For fans of: Paranormal, Romance, Horror, Supernatural

The heart-pounding sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller, Unbreakable, by New York Times bestselling Beautiful Creatures co-author Kami Garcia.
"A rare sequel that surpasses the original."--Ransom Riggs, New York Times bestselling author of Hollow City
He is here . . . and he could be anyone .
Kennedy Waters lives in a world where vengeance spirits kill, ghosts keep secrets, and a demon walks among us-a demon she accidentally set free.
Now Kennedy and the other Legion members-Alara, Priest, Lukas, and Jared-have to hunt him down. As they learn more about the history of the Legion and the Illuminati, Kennedy realizes that the greatest mystery of all does not belong to any secret order, but to her own family. With the clock ticking and the life of someone she loves hanging in the balance, Kennedy has to ask the question she fears most: what is it about her past that has left her Unmarked?

*MY THOUGHTS*

After reading Unbreakable I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to continue with this series, because while it was good, the characters and romance just weren't that great to me. But in this one, it definitely got better. Not the characters, but the romance.
There were definitely some things I liked better than the last one. For example the writing style was better. I said I liked it before because the chapters were short, but it was almost the opposite this time. I liked them because they were a little longer. It made them more suspenseful. Which was again my favorite part of the novel. There's so many changes and things that we think we know about Kennedy and Jared, but all that goes out the window the moment things start getting heated. And when I say get heated, I mean scary. Because what happens to one of them is one of the most chilling things ever.
What I wasn't a fan of though, was Kennedy. Again. She was was so naive about everything all the time. And she picked the worst possible times to do certain things. Like you want to get in an argument with someone you haven't seen in forever? Yes that's fine. Let's just please not do it when things are trying to kill you. And yes we know that you are only alive for the one man you've ever loved so him going through anything will hurt you. But do you really need to give up and kill all the free world because of it?! She was really making my head hurt for a minute there.
Then there was the romance. The only reason I liked it this time was the fact that there is an unexpected added factor in it. And trust me, it will shock you. I felt so bad for them both because I don't think there is anything they can do! It really feels like a hopeless case. I also liked it because there is another romance budding now, but this one isn't quite as obvious. And it's no matter where near as insta-lovey as the first one was. I really like the way this one was written because it doesn't seem like that "You saved me so I owe you" kind of love like the last one.
One thing that sort of made me upset though was the ending. This one ends on another cliff hanger, but this one is a little more intense. At the end you find some out some really important things and then you're just left hanging as Kennedy and the crew are trying to sort them out. I'm guessing there will be another installment to this series (I wasn't sure when I started reading this one) so I'm interested in seeing how Garcia's writing style will be when she actually has to write an ending.

Not a Drop to Drink, #2

For fans of: Dystopias, Sparkly Covers, YA

The only thing bigger than the world is fear.
Lucy’s life by the pond has always been full. She has water and friends, laughter and the love of her adoptive mother, Lynn, who has made sure that Lucy’s childhood was very different from her own. Yet it seems Lucy’s future is settled already—a house, a man, children, and a water source—and anything beyond their life by the pond is beyond reach.
When disease burns through their community, the once life-saving water of the pond might be the source of what’s killing them now. Rumors of desalinization plants in California have lingered in Lynn’s mind, and the prospect of a “normal” life for Lucy sets the two of them on an epic journey west to face new dangers: hunger, mountains, deserts, betrayal, and the perils of a world so vast that Lucy fears she could be lost forever, only to disappear in a handful of dust.
In this companion to Not a Drop to Drink, Mindy McGinnis thrillingly combines the heart-swelling hope of a journey, the challenges of establishing your own place in the world, and the gripping physical danger of nature in a futuristic frontier.

*MY THOUGHTS*

Another September release that I was expecting to love, but eh not so much. Sure I finished it, but I thought I would love it, but I didn't. I liked it, but I didn't really love it.

"'he told me once that people like me and him are badly built for times like this, when there's nothing we can do."

pg. 13

When I read Not a Drop to Drink, I was especially interested in the way the Earth would be if there actually was a water shortage but unfortunately saw that there wasn't very much world building. This one was a little better since it had more details, but it still wasn't at 100%. I know there isn't much you can say besides "dry cracked grounds" or "brown brittle grass," but a little more insight to the rest of the world or even why this is still happening even though in almost every scene it's raining.

"Desperate people do stupid things."

pg. 69

Then there's the plot. I was a little upset because as excited as I was about this one, it was just like the first. Really exciting in the beginning, boring Boring BORING in the middle, and then really exciting in the end as well. Plus a lot of things in the middle was really predictable. It was upsetting because the first one was lacking adventure as well.I really thought this one would be a little better. But honestly, if it had been like the beginning or the end, I would've given this book five stars. I'm just a little sad that it wasn't.

"'I'll be really pissed at you if you die."

pg. 126

I did like the fact that it left it open for another book to be written. What happens to Lynn and Lucy leaves an opening to have another book from either POV. I'm excited about this because this time if something happens I won't be so surprised. When I saw this one was coming out, I didn't know what to expect because the first one was such a good stand-alone and there really wasn't any room to make a sequel.

"'This is a hard place we live in."

pg. 356

The characters were still the same though. Lynn was still bad ass and overprotective. She went through great lengths to protect Lucy, who grows up not realizing why Lynn was so hard all the time. She didn't understand that she was that way because she had to grow up so fast. I really Through out this book though, Lucy gets a welcoming awakening. They run into people they want to trust and find out they shouldn't as well as those that they should. The more they find that they shouldn't trust people, Lucy gets older and wiser. Lynn just gets more bad ass lol

"'It stuck with you though. The words meant for us can do that."

pg. 366

Again, this one wasn't my favorite, but because of the hype I just wanted to review it for you all. It wasn't for me, but then again, the first one wasn't my favorite either. Maybe I'm the black sheep of this one. Maybe you all may like it more than me.

Overall, I give this

*MY THOUGHTS*

I was so excited to read this because it was my first book in verse. And it was about such an important subject. I chose this one because if I would have read it as a regular book I was sure to have loved it in verse as well.
For my first verse novel I was expecting a bunch of rhyming and just some poems and some just as a regularly written story. What I got was something completely different. Kuderick has written a story in such a unique (to me) way that I can't wait to read more from her. It's completely told in verse and even with the poem like structure I was completely captured in the story. It was easy for me to be swept away. And it wasn't at all like a childish book with a bunch of rhymes. I learned from this that just because it's a verse book doesn't mean it has to rhyme. I'm more happy that it didn't because I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. It would've felt too Dr. Seuss like to me.
As for the character, I felt really bad for her. So many things were happening to her and her family. And her friends and their peer pressure wasn't any better. And then seeing what all they did to her just made her hot rock bottom. But she still did it with a brave face. As for the rest of the people where she was, they all taught her something. Whether it be something good or something bad, she was taught something. And each item was important.
I also got immersed in the emotion in this. So many times I was so moved I had to put the book down just for a little bit. I needed to wrap my head around the fact that these kids could be so depressed about things they hardly understood about. They just saw the outside and wanted to harm themselves after that. It hurt me to see how much they were hurting.
Kuderick has written a novel that will teach you something you never would've thought children were doing. It really opened my eyes to a lot of the things that they try so hard to hide. If nothing else, this book definitely made me watch my younger cousins and family members a little more carefully.

On the day Liz Emerson tries to die, they had reviewed Newton’s laws of motion in physics class. Then, after school, she put them into practice by running her Mercedes off the road.
Why? Why did Liz Emerson decide that the world would be better off without her? Why did she give up? Vividly told by an unexpected and surprising narrator, this heartbreaking and nonlinear novel pieces together the short and devastating life of Meridian High’s most popular junior girl. Mass, acceleration, momentum, force—Liz didn’t understand it in physics, and even as her Mercedes hurtles toward the tree, she doesn’t understand it now. How do we impact one another? How do our actions reverberate? What does it mean to be a friend? To love someone? To be a daughter? Or a mother? Is life truly more than cause and effect? Amy Zhang’s haunting and universal story will appeal to fans of Lauren Oliver, Gayle Forman, and Jay Asher.

MY THOUGHTS*

First off, I love this cover. I was first drawn in by the car that's falling and the science equations that are surrounding it. And then I saw the synopsis. And when I saw that it will appeal to fans of Gayle Forman, I knew I had to get my hands on it.

This story ripped my heart to shreds. I can not put into words the amount of emotion that I felt while reading this. My heart hurt for Liz in so many ways. Just by reading the synopsis I had no idea about all the things she's suffering with. I can tell that Liz was a great pretender. Just by looking at her I'm sure people thought she was happy and that she had it all. But reading all her drama and everything that was really happening, it was obvious she was not the girl that everyone thought she was.

I also loved the writing style. It was GORGEOUS. And then I saw that it was written by a high school girl and I was BLOWN AWAY. If I could write that way in high school, I would probably be rich and retired by now lol Seriously, job well done Zhang. You captured me from the very beginning and I did not want to put it down.

I also loved the way the story was told. It jumped around to different parts and wasn't exactly told in a linear form. I loved that because it kept it suspenseful. Just when I thought it was finally about to tell me the entire story, it waited just a little longer by switching to the next part. And then the chapters got smaller which made my heart beat speed up because of how nervous I had gotten.

The last thing I loved was the narrator. I don't want to say who it is, but seeing the story from that POV made it a little more special. It makes you look at your own life and see what that person in your situation would say. It was really creative, which brings it right back to the writing style. I can't wait to see more of Zhang's creativity.

Magisterium, #1

For fans of: Fantasy, Witches, Wizards, Middle Grade, Sparkly Covers

From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare comes a riveting new series that defies what you think you know about the world of magic.
From two bestselling superstars, a dazzling and magical middle-grade collaboration centering on the students of the Magisterium, an academy for those with a propensity toward magic. In this first book, a new student comes to the Magisterium against his will -- is it because he is destined to be a powerful magician, or is the truth more twisted than that? It's a journey that will thrill you, surprise you, and make you wonder about the clear-cut distinction usually made between good and evil.

MY THOUGHTS*

When I first heard of this concept, I was thinking it sounded pretty cool. And then I say that it was written by Cassandra Clare (who's work I've read before) and Holly Black (who's work I haven't yet read) and I decided I needed to get my hands on this one. Looking at some of the reviews over it though I kind of got a little worried though.

I got worried because all the early reviews I saw said it reminded them so much of Harry Potter. But with me thinking like another blogger, I didn't want HP to make me not like every magical boarding school. And I'm glad I didn't let it. There are some things that I would compare with HP, but there are other things that made this story all it's own. At one time I had to put it down to be able to get past the references, but when I got back to it, I really did like it. If the only thing putting you off is the fact that you think it's an HP re-make, I say give it a shot.

The characters in this one were very different. I liked that there was diversity in them and that the twists and turns in the plot weren't expected at all. Because trust me, what you think will happen does not. It turns out to be something completely different than what you were expecting. But there were sometimes where I was angry at Call. He did some really dumb things. And when shit really hit the fan, his decisions just got worse. But then again, I guess that can only mean that things will get so much moire interesting when the second book comes out.

I also liked the magic and the way it was portrayed. I liked that it was done as the elements instead of just all out magic. I also liked that the way their school was set up. The "try-outs" and then getting to the next year juat seemed really cool. I can't wait to see what else happens in the rest of the series.

The characters and the magic in this one kept me so into this one. Although I was a little put off by the way it reminded me of one of my favorite books ever, I did really enjoy this book. I can't wait to see what Call, his friends, and his Master come up with in the next book!

Overall, I give this

TAKE ME AWAY...

AFTER DARK!

*This book is part of the new adult contemporary romance genre! It is more mature than both YA. I have featured it in Take Me Away... After Dark as a way to feature the few Adult and New Adult titles I am beginning to read!"

*MY THOUGHTS*

So when I first saw the title of this I HAD to get my hands on it. I was SO EXCITED to read this because I actually grew up when boy bands were popular so I know ALL about the Backstreet Boys! And so of course, I had to have this one.

But unfortunately this one wasn't my cup of tea. Maybe I was thinking about it too hard or something, but it just wasn't what I expected. For starters, the writing was terribly choppy. I kept having to go back and re-read passages to make sure I didn't leave a part out. I was really confused a lot of the time. And then to say I DNF'ed this around 47%, the "L-word" had already been thrown around as well. I just didn't really understand how things between them could escalate so quickly. Especially with a certain someone else in the picture.

And then I didn't really care about their relationship that much. They just didn't seem to connect with me or each other. Nadia seemed very naieve and Tyler seemed way too mature to be with a college student. They just didn't fit right to me. What bothered me the most though, was the use of the "f-word." Now I know that it comes up a lot in people's vocabulary nowadays, but still, let's say sex ok? Because saying "I want to f*ck you so bad it hurts every three pages was getting tiresome. At least find another expression. Hell say "I want to jump your bones." *shrugs*

Overall, I was super excited about this, but it turned out as not a "me" book. I've seen some other bloggers out there that have actually enjoyed it, I'm gonna tell y'all this: Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean you won't like it. I'm still going to (try to) read the second book in this series so don't hesitate to give this one a try!

Anna and the French Kiss, #3

Source: Bought (Pre-Ordered)

For fans of: Romance, Hot Literary Guys, LOL, Feels, Chick-lit,

From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever. Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.

*MY THOUGHTS*

From Anna and the French Kiss, to Lola and the Boy Next Door, Stephanie Perkins has not disappointed me. I wasn't expecting this one to be any different. And of course I was right. While Anna is still my favorite, Isla plays a very close second.

"To be good at anything you have to practice.' 'Do you wanna practice on me?"

pg. 7

I know this has become the running saying with this novel, but it's the truth. I saw a little of myself in Isla. I swear I'm just as much as awkward and weird as she is. And then there was the way she was so hard on herself. I know for a fact that I do that. Maybe not towards the same things, but I am hard on myself. I could understand where she was coming from. Because of this she seemed like such a relate-able character. She really felt so real.

"Thank you slutty funnel."

pg. 10

As for Josh, let me pause and physically swoon. *SWOON SWOON SWOON* You guys, he is the epitome of sweet, romantic, and any other cutesy adjective that you can think of. I LOVED him. And all because of the way he loved Isla. I'm not sure how someone else missed it, because it was glaringly obvious. I've never seen a boy cry as much as I saw read about him crying. And I loved it because it felt so genuine. Joah, just like Isla, felt so utterly real.

"Listen I like you and you like me, so let's go find a secluded park and touch each other'."

pg. 61

I also loved the two of them together. They both have "ugly sides" that they didn't want the other to see, but at the same time, who really wants to show someone those parts? They always try to keep those away from people as long as they can. Which makes them even more realistic. And the insecurities and jealousy are real life emotions that people in relationships feel all the time. Their relationship seemed just as real as they did. I also want to send a thank you to Perkins. Thank you for making them use protection. It is proven now that using it won't mess up the flow or ruin the mood or anything like that. It's more realistic and it's helping teens that read this understand that they must be safe.

"Back up, back up, back up. 'You always liked me?' 'A super smart hot girl who reads comics? You were definitely on my radar.'"

pg. 97

What I loved most about this book though, was the way it brought oiut my emotions. I laughed at Lola so hard in the beginning for all that she did in front of Josh at Kismet. And then I was SMITTEN with Josh when he was finally introduced. And then I was taken with him even more because he was so sweet with Isla. And then I felt a little of the same jealousy when she read THE GRAPHIC NOVEL. And then I was a little upset with Isla after blowing things out of proportions. In short, everything about this novel either made me sigh with contented happiness or feel like I got punched in the gut. By the end, I was teary eyed and read the part about his "edited version" three times because it was hard seeing through my bleary eyes.

"I've always thought the best relationships are those that are as happy and content in silence as they are in action'."

pg. 154

And of course it was a pleasure to revisit the old characters: Anna, St. Clair, Lola, and Cricket. Even Calliope makes an apperance. I thought that was pretty cool. And the events that happen when they all appear made me love this book even more. I couldn't even say anything. I just found myself in shock. I loved that Perkins was able to tie everything together and give everyone exactly what they needed: A Happily Ever After.

"You [can't] lose anything you haven't already lost."

pg. 303

When a book contains relate-able characters and can make my emotions go into a full on roller coaster ride, that's how I know it was a hit with me. And this one, just like it's predecessors was definitely a hit. Thank you Stephanie Perkins for creating such real life romances with Anna, Lola, and Isla. I look forward to more of your novels in the future.

In these action-packed novellas - together in one edition for the first time - Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and seeks to avenge the tyrannous. But she is acting against Arobynn's orders and could suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery. Will Celaena ever be truly free? Explore the dark underworld of this kick-ass heroine to find out.

*MY THOUGHTS*

I'd heard so many things about this series but since I've never been a huge fantasy person, I didn't think this would be something I'd want to read. But all the fans of this series were saying that this series would be a good one to start easing into the genre with, so I decided to give it a try.

After reading The Assassin and the Pirate Lord, I wasn't exactly impressed. I mean she was super cool because she was a reader, she was kicking everyone's ass, and because she stood up for what she believed in, but I just thought there was something off about her. I'm thinking it was just because she was so arrogant. I like that she knew she was good, but at the same time, knowing that you're good may sometimes be a bad thing. Other than that, the writing style was great and the action scene was super good as well. I couldn't wait to continue on with the rest of the series. Especially to find out more about Arobynn and Sam. There was a time I was thinking there wouldn't be any swoons in this since they were novellas, but as the book went on I could see why she ended putting them all together. It made sense to read them straight through.By itself I would rate it 4 stars.
The Assassin and the Healer wasn't that great to me either. Just because the action wasn't the most prevalent thing. But we did get another taste of the type of person that Celaena is. She helped that poor lady without really knowing her. Even though in the beginning she really didn't want to. She may have seemed selfish and arrogant in the first novella, but after all the run ins with Arobynn and what all he's doing to her, she's letting her true colors shine through. We also see what kind of person Arobynn is as well. He basically put her out after taking her in nine years earlier. I can understand that he would do that as a type of father figure, but at the same time, what he does BEFORE he puts her out was not cool. We also meet the daughter of a Healer in this one. I hope to see that she makes it in to the actual books because I would love to see if she made it to her destination and accomplished all that she wanted to. By itself I would give this 3 stars.
The Assassin and the Desert was by far my favorite. It contained all the bad assery and the cool sword fighting I had heard all about this series. And it also contained all the twists and turns EVER. lol There were so many times I found myself open mouthed in disbelief. I just couldn't believe that these people would do these things to her. Celaena really has the worst luck. Everyone she trusted was turning against her. (*MILD SPOILER*) Arobynn beat her until she was unconscious and then put her out to find her way to a desert?! Talk about harsh punishment. Yes I admit what she did was a little reckless, but at the same time, he didn't even try to see why she did it? Like you have no compassion or remorse? Well guess not if you did that to both her AND Sam. Their punishments were way over the top. And then there was Ansel. I'll just leave that rant alone so I won't spoil anything else. By itself, I would give this 5 stars.
The Assassin and the Underworld is where Arobynn's true colors start coming out. He gives Celaena another assignment that has to do with the slave trade, and Celaena thinking her punishment is over and fulfilled thinks nothing of it. She thinks she will be helping them to be freed. In the end, that is not what happens. It's just another way for Arobynn to get back at her. He hasn't had enough revenge yet? geez, it's only so much you can do to get back at someone lol But in this novella, there's also something that makes me smile. Sam. His love for Celaena becomes more noticeable. He finally makes her understand that even though he's never said anything all those years, he's loved her all that time. Even though this makes Celaena very happy, this does not bode well with Arobynn. He gets even more vindictive than ever. By itself, I would give this, 4 stars.
The Assassin and the Empire is the last novella, so natually, this is where all the shit hit the fan. Celaena makes enough money to finally rid herself of Arobynn and she does. But then something comes up and she sees that Abroynn is basically still tearing her and Sam down. She gives up her horse to pay Sam's debt to him and they move in together. Everytrhing is going fine, but with them still tied to the Guild, they have no choice but to still take orders from Arobynn. Finally they are able to free themselves, but it comes with a hefty price. That price being her entire bank account. This means Sam and Celaena must take another job before they are able to leave or even keep surviving. They get a job to take out the highest person in the empire. Now doesn't that sound suspicious? Of course it was. It was all a setup. Both of them are captured and Celaena is sent to jail. Hence the reason she begins book one (Throne of Glass) as she's released from prison. This is another one I loved due to all the twists and turns. I can't wait to dive into Throne of Glass when I get the chance. I'm already having sword wielding dreams lol smh By itself, I would give this 4 stars.
So after all my dreams about the series already, I think it's safe to say I can't wait to dive into Celaena's world again. I've heard the beginning is pretty slow, but that's how the novellas were as well. Which makes me glad I read these first. I'm a little more prepared for it now. My first journey into fantasy actually went surprisingly well! I can't wait to get caught up in the series!

AFTER DARK!

*This book is part of the new adult contemporary romance genre! It is more mature than both YA. I have featured it in Take Me Away... After Dark as a way to feature the few Adult and New Adult titles I am beginning to read!"

*MY THOUGHTS*

I tried to hold off on reading this one as long as I could, but seeing all the amazing reviews and letting my eyes keep drifting to that amazing cover, I knew I didn't really have a choice. I finally got one free second and I devoured it.

"On the single most important day of my life, I wake with the thought:Oh crap; where are my panties?"

1%

Mia and Ethan spent one night together and secretly plan many more. That is until they see that they work together. At a place that they find out has a strict no dating policy. Add on to the fact that they are competing for a job that they were both promised... Yeah, no bueno. They go through so much to avoid each other, that it keeps bringing them right back together. And it doesn't matter where they are, the time they spend together is ELECTRIC.

"When it comes to showung your strengths, eyes over ears: don't tell them you're good, show them."

21%

I LOVED Ethan. He was so sweet and he seemed to be the perfect man. I wanted to reach inside Boomerang and take him out to have a real life copy of him. He really took great care of Mia. Even when he didn't know he was trying. Which I think makes him one of the best book boys ever. Being amazing while not trying is adorable. As for Mia, she is one impulsive chick. I'm not going to lie though, for a minute there she kind of got on my nerves after that one stunt she pulled, but gradually, I got over it. Overall, she was super smart, innovative, and super creative. And having a degree in broadcast production, I LOVED that she was a film maker.

"Unexpected things are my favorite."

31%

Mia and Ethan together were a different story. They were magic together. But, you won't see that until the end of the novel. Most of the book is spent trying to keep their distance from each other. But I won't lie and say that they succeed. There are some times they slip up and find themselves in the arms of each other and I can't tell you how much I had to put the book down for a little bit. Ethan is super hot and so sweet with Mia. I loved getting those glimpses of them together. But sometimes it was like torture. Like during the "office scene" I wanted something to happen RIGHT THERE so bad, but of course, it was ruined. I really hated their interruption for the rest of the book lol

"I do not share nicely.."

37%

Lastly, there's the writing style. I thought of this book like a hilarious movie playing out in my mind. It was absolutely hilarious. I found myself reading it at the gym and getting dirty looks from people that seemed so upset that I wasn't feeling the burn. I'm sure they were thinking "Seriously, who's that happy at the gym..." but that's beside the point. This book had me laughing in the weirdest places.

"...sometimes we're already doing the right things, and we don't know it."

90%

It's not normal that I write in all caps so often in my reviews, so clearly this book was something special. I loved the characters, the realistic writing style, and the relationship Ethan and Mia share. Noelle August (who I just found out is Veronica Rossi and Lorin Oberweger!) make for a hilariously, sexy New Adult novel that everyone can enjoy.

Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend by Katie Finn

Hardcover, 339 pages

Release Date: May 13, 2014

Published by: Feiwel & Friends

Broken Hearts & Revenge, #1

Source: NetGalley/Own

For fans of: Romance, Summer Lovin, Chick-Lit, Contemporary, Humor, Realistic Fiction

Hot sun. Blue waves. New romances. Old secrets.
Gemma had her summer all planned out, but it takes a sharp turn when she gets dumped and finds herself back in the Hamptons after a five-year absence.
Being there puts her at risk of bumping into Hallie, her former best friends (that is, before Gemma ruined her life). But people don't hold grudges forever. Do they?
Gemma intends on making amends, but a small case of mistaken identity causes the people she knew years ago—including Hallie and her dreamy brother, Josh—to believe she's someone else. As though the summer wasn't complicated enough already.
Filled with summer sun, boys, and friendships gone sour, Katie Finn's first novel in the Broken Hearts and Revenge series sizzles and delights.

*MY THOUGHTS*

This entire story was full of second hand embarrassment and laughs that made people give me dirty looks when I read in public! It starts out light and fluffy and turns into something crazy with a twist that you'll never see coming!

"But it was becoming abundantly clear that the mistakes I'd made- and the people I thought I'd left behind- hadn't actually  gone anywhere.."

pg. 58

This one will have you laughing out loud with no regard for where you're reading. I can't count on my hands how many times I laughed out loud while I was reading this. Katie Finn definitely has a great sense of humor. But of course, with that laughter came some second hand embarrassment... I also can't count on my hands how many times I had to put the book down for a little because I was so embarrassed by what happened to Sophie/Gemma. (You'll understand if you've read it lol) There were so many things that made even me blush.

"That summer seemed ill-fated from the start."

pg. 59

As far as the writing style, there's no complaints at all for me there. As everyone may now know, Katie Finn is indeed Morgan Matson. And we all know how I feel about her. I once called her the Queen of Realistic Fiction. She's an amazing author and can write realistic fiction as if you're a fly on the wall and you're watching everything play out. But the pacing of the novel in this one was a little weird. It seemed long and drawn out, but I think that was just my anticipation on wanting to get to the part on how they found out about her. But otherwise, there wasn't anything I'd change.

"I took a breath, then went to adjust my shoulder strap. Which was when I realized it wasn't there."

pg. 116

The only thing I DID have a problem with, was the freaking main character. Omg she was soooooo selfish. I didn't realize that was it until the end when she started wondering why the real Sophie was being accepted by other people. She wanted that from the beginning but then when it happened she was really iffy and wanted her all to herself. And then, she was soooo spiteful. I can't believe she did that to that chick and didn't understand the consequences. Did you really think that doing something like this would be ok? Yeah, not even a little bit.

"No reward without risks."

pg. 298

But the ending was a killer. It definitely made me flip pages backward and re-read it again just to make sure I had read it right. I was definitely thinking things would go an entirely different way. Now I'm thinking if that's only book one, what will it be like in the rest of the series! Hopefully with all the things that happened at the end we can see Gemma as more grown up and not the bratty teen she was in this one.. And here's to hoping that the writing style and everything else stays the same!

Overall, I give this
